The Alpine is a cousin of our Googie mid-century modern birdhousemodel. Not quite an A-Frame, but maintains a steeply pitched roof that slopes almost all the way to the ground, forming the shape of a capital “A.”
 
It became especially popular for cabins and vacation homes in the 1950s–70s because it is relatively simple to build, sheds snow and rain well, and creates a dramatic open interior. The tradeoff is less usable space along the sloped side walls.
 
The bottom comes off, for easy cleaning!
