The ideal height for a birdhouse is between 5' and 16' off the ground, which gives birds enough space to access the house, keeps predators away and also works well in most flood prone areas. We suggest 8' as a common height, but the type of bird you're trying to attract, may prefer a higher or lower house position. There's lots of information online, to help you with positioning and height, depending on where you live. There are lots of resources online, as well.

TIPS:
-
Tree or other structure: We recommend a simple French cleat. If mounting on a tree, keep the house at the proper height and keep the direction of the sun in mind. A darker birdhouse may overheat on a warm day and when directly facing the sun.
-
Pole mount: This is one of the best options as it will be less likely to sway in the wind and is more likely to see less predators, especially with a metal pole. Baffles, however, are also a great option, to aid in keeping unwanted guests away.
-
Hanging: Whether you use a wire, rope or chain, keep in mind that it is more likely to swing, on windy days, so keep the lengths short, where possible.
